Pentagorat II C64 Review

Pentagorat 2

Pentogorat II is an isometric 3d adventure games with puzzles to solve and traps to avoid.

It took me ten minutes to get out of the first room which included as restart of C64 Forever. After the restart I managed to get to the third room where there is a hole to jump but which is obscured by the isometric view and I found this incredibly frustrating as the collision detection is hard as nails and you need to be pixel perfect whilst not actually being able to see your character behind an obstruction.

Your character is controlled slightly awkwardly as left, right, up, down do not quite correspond to the isometric view. Pressing up moves you up and right, pressing down moves you down and left. THe fire button makes you jump. You have the ability to search by pressing the joystick in the general direction of the object you want to search whilst standing next to it. “Searching” followed by “Nothing” will appear on until such time as you are standing near something to be revealed.

There is a suitable moody intro screen and music including a heart beat sound.

On later screens you find switches to open doors and a pair of boots by searching. The boots let you jump higher to traverse obstacles.

This game is very difficult and a little frustrating but for a couple of quid you can’t go wrong.
