Knights & Slimes C64 Review

Knights & Slimes

Knights & Slimes is a little platform game in a similar vein to Bubble Bobble in that you move your character around the platforms collecting stars whilst destroying the enemies.

In this case you get to choose between eight different characters. I didn’t notice any difference between them other than there avatar.

There are four worlds to choose from – Castle, Dark Wood, Caverns and Slime Lair but initially only the Castle world is available.

Knights & Slimes

You destroy the various enemies by running into them, except they split into smaller enemies and you must eliminate them all before they touch each other and form back into bigger adversaries.

Along the way, there are orbs that you can touch that will destroy everything on the screen or at least split all the enemies into smaller units. Other orbs turn you into a flaming bouncing ball which kills anything it touches. Sometimes the enemies freeze after touching an orb allowing you decimate the baddies. There are green blobs, harder purple blobs, skeletons and others to combat. But be carefulas you can take damage from them.

Once the screen is cleared of baddies, you will get various bonuses for collecting all the stars, for losing no health and for not allowing the enemies to rejoin into bigger blobs.

The game gives you passcodes to return to the same screen again at a future date if you do not have a save feature available on the platform you are using. Alongside that is a highscore table to keep you motivated which by default is populated by Lancelot and Galahad 🙂

There are some suitable tunes and decent sound effects. You can switch the music off from the home screen.

itch.io is again the storefront for this indie game and costs $2.99 – a couple of quid well spent as I found it highly enjoyable.
